My Newest Coin for My Collection: The Japanese Sen

Collecting coins has been an interest of mine for a few years. My grandparents have travelled near and far and have always given me coins from their trips. I have collected those coins in a special bank.

A few days ago I went to an indoor antique and flea market store. I bought some foreign coins after talking to the man who ran the booth where I found the coins. Before this day I had in my collection Euros and Canadian coins so I decided to start a coin collection with my own selection as well.

The first coin I’m going to write about is my Japanese coin. My Japanese coin is a sen which is one hundredth of a yen. A yen is 0.0098 of a U.S. Dollar. The sen I have was produced between 1916-1924. Sens from this time period were made of bronze. Today a sen is worth a half of a penny. My sen is 23 mm in diameter and 3.75 grams in mass.

I think this coin is an interesting coin because it is old and detailed. The fact that this coin is at least one hundred years old makes it an antique. This coin is very detailed because it has exactly eleven Japanese markings.

Collecting coins is fun because I not only learn about money but the history of the coins and the countries that produced them.

Next time I look forward to writing about my Persian coin!
